Education is complicated, dissonant, and often contradictory. There is no one-size-fits-all model. Knowing who I am as a teacher will help me find cohesion in my work. It will support all the contradictory pieces in a way that provides satisfaction as opposed to angst. It also allows me to explore views and biases that I may not have considered.

Grounding (artifact)Interpretation: If I am going to work towards equity and engage with dissonance I need to be grounded. We should all have reasons for things we say and do. These are some of my reasons and some of the quotes that ground me.

Artifact: Link to "A Mathematicians Lament" by Paul Lockhart As someone who advocates for progressive education where the purpose of school is to increase occupational ability and well-being, it seemed unthinkable to not encourage a reading of this short and entertaining book (This is a link to the PDF). Play based education is the best education. |
